Tiffany lamps, retro advertising, and a pizza night
It's a short five fun things this week, but I hope you enjoy them š
š I've started (but not yet finished) a few books, my favourite at the moment being The Tiffany Girls by Shelley Noble. The story follows women working as artists and designers for Tiffany leadlight windows and lamps. Having learnt about the real women who worked at the Tiffany Studio, including Clara Driscoll, it's been nice to be immersed in this creative world.
š¦ For games night this week we played Poleconomy, an Australian game from the 1980s based on buying companies and advertising. It's a bit like Monopoly, but better and with the added factors of politics and interest rates.
š To go with games night, we tried a new (to us) pizza place that had some really good toppings, like fennel, pork sausage and radicchio. I think it may become a new local favourite.
š§ Trying something different for Friday Night Nibbles, we had goat cheese pearls stuffed with fig. I paired this with gin-cured fish, which seemed to work. Perhaps next time I'll consult my flavour thesaurus for some more ideas.
š» Later in the week we played Scrabble. House rules adopt The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary on Historical Principles (two volumes) from the 1970s, which allowed for a successful challenge to my use of 'blog'. So far this year the Bevilacqua Scrabble competition stands at one all.
More fun things are planned for next week, so I hope you can join me. Also, I've now been writing this newsletter every week for a whole year! If you'd like to follow my writing, I'd love you to subscribe. And for those who've been there from the beginning or joined me along the way, thank you for your support š
