Vintage fashion, a Hollywood costume designer and dancing with The Australian Ballet (sort of)
This week my five fun things have a bit of a fashion and design theme, because some weeks just turn out that way.
š I visited a jewellery exhibition as part of Melbourne Design Week. Many pieces had a floral connection, which worked well with the garden setting. Along the way I wandered through the gardens and explored a conservatory.
š Exploring further, I visited VAULT., a secondhand clothing and accessories store run by the National Trust. Although only a small store, it made for enjoyable browsing. Nearby, I also stopped in to a paper store. Both shops are on my list to visit again.
š For more vintage fun and some light entertainment, I started catching up on The Larkins. I watched and quite liked the first season, so I'm looking forward to what this quirky family gets up to next.
š Looking to refresh my work wardrobe, I'm re-reading How to Dress for Success by Edith Head and Joe Hyams. I picked this up several years ago while visiting an exhibition about Edith Head's career as a costume designer in Hollywood. While some of the ideas may have dated, much of the book is still quite relevant. I even noted that some of the points about personal presentation through clothes are similar to concepts I teach in social media classes about personal-professional presentation online.
š©° Lastly, and maybe a little outside of this week's theme, I took a ballet class with The Australian Ballet. This has been on my list of fun things to do for years, so I'm glad I finally made it. I'm also looking forward to seeing their production of Jewels.
That's my week in fun things! Join me next week for more š
